The story
Across the Canadian Arctic, rapidly thawing permafrost is creating massive retrogressive thaw slumps, transforming the landscape and releasing carbon stored in the frozen ground. This ongoing project documents National Geographic Explorer Cansu Culha and her team as they work alongside Gwich’in communities to pilot the Green Blanket™, a biodegradable solution designed to slow the growth of these slumps.
